Check the door before you walk through it

Five things worth knowing about an online casino before your money is inside it. All five can be checked from your sofa, none of them need an account, and every one of them is published here in full so you can run the test yourself.

Read the method Latest notes

The doorstep test

  1. Licence, in the register — not the footer
  2. The four numbers behind the bonus
  3. Withdrawal rules, read before depositing
  4. One real question to support
  5. Limits and self-exclusion, counted in clicks
  1. 01

    The licence, read properly

Not the logo in the footer — the entry in the regulator's own register, matched by company name and licence number. A logo is an image file. A register entry is a fact.

  2. 02

    The terms behind the offer

Wagering multiple, which games count towards it, the maximum bet while a bonus is live, and the expiry. Four numbers decide whether a headline offer is worth anything.

  3. 03

    The way out

Withdrawal limits, verification rules and the pending period, found before depositing rather than after winning. This is where most complaints actually start.

  4. 04

    Someone to ask

A support channel that answers a specific question with a specific answer, tested with a real question about the terms, not with "hello".

  5. 05

    The brakes

Deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion — how many clicks away they are, whether they apply instantly, and whether anything undoes them quietly.

What a pass looks like

The scorecard we fill in for every site we look at. No weighting, no total — a fail on any single row is the finding worth writing down.
CheckPassFail Evidence kept
Licence Name and number found in the regulator's register, status active Register entry missing, dormant, or under a different company than the site names Register screenshot, date
Bonus terms Wagering, eligible games, max bet and expiry all stated in one place Any of the four only findable in a separate document, or contradicting the headline Saved terms page
Cash-out Limits and verification requirements published before an account exists Withdrawal rules visible only once logged in, or only once a withdrawal is requested Saved help page
Support A specific answer to a specific terms question, inside a working day Template reply, a link back to the same page we asked about, or silence Chat transcript
Safer play Limits and self-exclusion reachable from the account menu, applied immediately Buried in support pages, delayed, or reversible on request the same day Click path, count

Published The scorecard is the whole method. Nothing else feeds into what we write, and there is no private version of it.

Questions we get

Do you rate casinos with a score out of ten?

No. A single number hides the thing that matters, which is which check failed. We publish the five checks and what a pass looks like on each, so a reader can see the reasoning instead of a badge.

Do you accept payment for a good result?

No. We take affiliate commission on some outbound links, which is disclosed on every page that carries one, and it never changes a pass or a fail. The affiliate disclosure explains what that means in practice.

Can I run the doorstep test myself?

That is the point of publishing it. Each of the five checks is something you can do from your own sofa in under an hour, before you deposit anything.

Which market do you cover?

Ireland first, because that is where we live and where the rules are changing fastest under the Gambling Regulation Act. UK-licensed sites come up often because Irish players see them constantly.
